Mentality towards Women

Election fever has kicked in. And as the days goes by, some of the comments by our so called leaders have started to become nastier. And on April 11, 2014, this reached the limit. Our leaders have reached the stage where even issues like rape can become topic for garnering votes. And if a high profile leader of Samajwadi Party, Mr. Mulayam singh Yadav can make such outrageous comments, then we can just imagine what would be the mentality of ordinary karyakartas of the party. “Boys will be Boys, they make mistakes. Will you hang them for rape?”. This comment? At the middle of a Election rally? That too at this crucial juncture? And this was not enough, his counterpart in Maharashtra Mr Abu Azmi says "If a woman is caught (in a rape case), then both she and the boy should be punished”.

Its tragic that we have such leaders in the country where even gruesome incidents like rape is suppose to be trivial issues. Let alone to be sensitive towards victims we here have leaders who accused the victim to be equally responsible. Its sad to believe that we live in such country. But the real issue is not this! The issue is much deeper. Why such a comment was made at such crucial juncture? This is a make or break elections for each and every politician in India today. And certainly our leaders are not jerks to make such imprudent comment. Our Leaders may be corrupt, they may be illiterates. But certainly they are not stupid.
Politicians in this country are most shrewd when it comes to vote-bank politics. And believe me the comment was also made to appease a certain section of the people to garner votes.

This is the sad part! After this comment by Mr. Yadav and Mr. Azmi there was protest all over. Womens group from muslim community came and opposed the comment of this leaders. But what is the use? Whatever this people wanted, they have been successful in that. To appease like-minded people who have similarity in thinking as of this leaders. We have reached such a low stage where you can garner votes by bashing rape victims. And as I have said earlier, I don’t blame these leaders for their behaviour. No Sir! We Indians deserve such leaders. And reason for it is that most people agree with them. Leaders are one among us and if the people here are bad how can we expect the leaders coming out among us to be good! And nothing will happen after this too. Mr. Yadav is fighting election from Azamgarh and Manipuri. Even after this insensitive comment he will win both seats and that too with a thumping majority.

We deserve such leaders. People here have always had this mentality of demeaning women in society. It’s the same country where after Shakti Mill Gang rape case instead of showing solidarity towards victim,  people where questioning the victim as too what she was doing there in such a secluded location. Men and women alike most of the time blame girls for rape occurrences. The day when death sentence was pronounced to the culprits of Shakti Mill case, I happen to travel by train. I overheard group of men saying that ‘ Girls are equally to be blamed for rape. They dress provocatively and invite men to rape them. And Men are Men. They will react na!’ This is the mentality of the people in our country. And it was this section of people Mr. Yadav wanted to appease. So I don’t blame him.

Incidents like rape are result of mentality of Indian men towards women. Unless this mentality changes the incidents will occur. And for the mentality to change, the people here must change. Men and Women both are equally responsible for it. I thought Indians to be religious people and even their religion says “Yatra naryastu poojyante ramante tatra devataha”. Lets see if people like Mr. Yadav and Azmi get back to power! Because if that happens its proved that people of this country have not changed. Change within themselves is what they need!

CAN WE CHANGE?

Country being very politically active today on the eve of elections, we find news channel with nothing but some or the other political news. Today it was dominated by Congress candidate Mr. Pawan Bansal getting a Congress ticket to fight Loksabha elections from Chandigarh Seat.

My father’s immediate reaction was “ How can he get a ticket. This all politicians are the same. How will corruption get routed out if such people get ticket”

I said “ Why shouldn’t they Dad? Since when our people cared about corruption so much”

My Dad responded “ What do you mean by that. Indians never tolerate corrupt people”

Was my Dad true? Do we really care about corruption? Do Indians really care about corruption. My Answer would be a firm NO!

Well most of you wont’t agree with me on that right? Indians are fed up of corruption you would say. The Anna Hazare’s Jan Lokpal Movement, the birth of Aam aadmi Party was result of it you would say. Well I would answer in the negative. But my main point of approach is not that today. Indians don’t really care about the image of the candidates this political parties field. What really matters is if he is among us. The advertisement from Hero really hits the nail on the head. Indians vote only to that leaders who belongs to their caste or religion. Corruption, criminal charges don’t really matter to people in the country.

If it did care then why such people get elected in the first place. Think about it! People vote then this candidates get elected. Facts say for itself. The 15th Loksabha had 162 MPs who had criminal charges against them. 76 MPs, or 14%, had serious charges such as murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and robbery. How do this people reach the parliament. Simple! We elect them. When it comes to our politicians it doesn’t matter if he is corrupt or a criminal. What matters is if he is “Apna Aadmi”.

Indian people simply don’t have any right to blame the political parties for fielding such candidates. They field such candidates because they have more chances of winning then other honest candidates. Take any political party today. BJP fielded Mr. Yedyurappa inspite of the corruption charges against him. Why? Its simple. He has got more chances of winning and helping his party win more than any other honest candidate. The recent opinion pole clearly shows that BJP has certainly gained in Karnataka after giving Yeyurappa a ticket. Inspite of the corruption charges against him people of Karnataka or the people from his community support him.

Leaders are reflection of the people they represent. If most of our leaders are our corrupt its because we have such mentality. If most of our leaders are Criminals , it is because we have such mentality. So people don’t have any right to criticize political parties for fielding such candidates. We deserve such Leaders. If we expect our leaders to change, we have to change. Don’t vote for such candidates. If people stop doing so, political parties will not even dare to keep such people in their party, leave alone giving them ticket. For that to happen we have to change. But “ CAN WE CHANGE?”

Indian Mentality

Indian mentality! Let me tell why this topic came at first in my mind.Well I saw the Marathi movie ’Harishchandrachi Factory’yesterday. Well and I must say kudos to Paresh mokashi for making such a excellent movie on such a excellent concept and that too on such a inspiring personality.Well I must say kudos to Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, because inspite of facing enormous opposition from all his friends and family, the man successfully made the first Indian film and singlehandedly was successful in establishing the Indian film industry. Whatever success and glamour Indian film industry is attracting today would have no longer took place had it not been because of this man. Its only because of the patriotic views of him and her wife that Indian film industry or the so called Bollywood is today.
But the question remains. Why talk about the Indian mentality. Well the reason for it is simple. I was able to witness the ever cynical Indian mentality through this film. We Indians always had or still have the tendency to follow anything blindly. Anything out of the book is either a sin here or you have to be out of your mind to think about it. We hate to ask ‘Why’ or even ‘Why not’. Think about it. Whenever we think or hear of great Indian intelligence or our outperformance with the western world in terms of knowledge and intellectuality comes , why we don’t ask ourselves a question. What innovations have we created to term ourselves with extra intelligence? What innovative ideas have been born here in the last say 60 years? Why multinationals like a Toyota or Google are not born here? Why we always follow the crowd instead of taking the lead? Why? Well to many questions but answer remains the same. Indian Mentality!
Yes, Indian Mentality! We like to follow the rest of the world instead of being in the lead. We like to copy stuffs instead of presenting our own innovative ideas. Our Indian mentality has always been the root cause behind this. Innovative ideas have no place in our country. This phenomenon has always been the same. Be it in the earlier 16th,17th,18th centuries or be it now, the situation has not changed. This is why we hardly see any reforms or innovations happening here. This further with lack of patriotism in our youth has brought the trend of brain drain. We have been seeing more than 300000 of our skilled people living abroad. Why? Well they would like to work for a international firm elsewhere but would not work for it here in India. Instead of contributing it in here. How many of our engineers from the IITs stay back in our country and contribute in our research institutes. Why don’t they contribute with their intelluctuality in here. Well its because of our Indian mentality.
That’s why we see so many religions and culture here. We have been used too believing blindly any customs and rituals without asking the reason for it. So any new innovative ideas had been opposed here. Be it the introduction of Railways, Telegraph, Cameras etc. Let me give you a example. Earlier even removing a moustache was considered a sin, saying this may lead to death of their father. Nobody even asked the question why? You may say this is not the case today. But then I have 'n' number of examples where we have been following a practice blindly for the sake of following it. Let me start by this. In our Indian marriages brides have to change their name after marriage. The reason tradition. Logic none. We prick the ears of our new born. Reason tradition. Logic none. We feed the crows after event of death in our family. Reason tradition. Logic none. This are few among list of hundreds of examples which proves that our Indian mentality disallows us of asking the question ‘Why’. We have been used to following things blindly. It’s the sole reason why we have so many babas here. The babas who promise of giving a successful life and we people follow them. This is the sole reason. Our Indian mentality. Nothing else….

Just Think!

A Statement, this is what it takes to create a controversy in India. The situation manifolds when you arrive in Bombay.Ooops sorry! What did i say 'Bombay'?Oh God! Great Crime! Let me rectify it. 'Mumbai'.Now when i said 'Bombay' did the situation change in here?Do the problem got solved.Problems which Mumbai has in abundance. You name it and Mumbai has it.Traffic,Electricity,Water scarcity,Pollution,Sanitation,Poverty,Crime and the list goes on.But what our politicians are concerned about. What name do we call our city. What language do we speak here. Now is it their fault? Are they responsible for the situation here. The answer is straight No! How many times have we tried to think that whatever this group is doing is it Right or Wrong?.The answer would be none. This has aggravated the problem. Not only that some have started supporting it.Divisive politics cannot survive in a successful democracy. And if it does, the democracy no longer remains successful.
What people have to understand is that this genre of politics may sound entertaining but is no solution to your problems. They are using their emotions to earn their living.India's success had been only because of its tendency to live together irrespective of its diversity. This so called problem never surpassed earlier,Why is it now?Just think!
